We are looking forward to welcoming delegates to the School of English at the University of Leeds for the Land Lines conference, Nature Writing’s Future Pasts.
Please find below some information on travel and accommodation, as well as the conference programme.

Accommodation
Access to the University is easiest from the City Centre, and from the Headingley/Hyde Park areas. There are several hotels in Leeds City Centre. Land Lines recommends the Queens Hotel (next to the train station). There is also an Ibis and several Premier Inns in the city centre, not far from the University. There are several hotels in Headingley, including Haley’s Hotel (recommended) and a Premier Inn.
Travel
There are a number of transport options to get to the conference venue from the main train station in Leeds. A campus map is available below (you can also download and print a PDF version).
Walking
If you are coming from the train station or the town centre, you can use the map below to find the quickest route:
Alternatively, head out of the train station up the hill on Park Row. When you reach the Headrow, you can continue straight on Cookridge Street past the Henry Moore Institute, and then turn left when you reach Woodhouse Lane. Continue on Woodhouse Lane, and turn left in front of the converted Church to reach Cavendish Road. House 10 is the house with the blue door, furthest on the left as you look directly at it. There will be signs directing attendees from this point.
If you are coming from Headingley/Hyde Park, walking to the University will take between 15 and 30 minutes depending on where you are staying.
Public Transport
You can catch the 1, 1A or 1B buses from Bishopsgate Street, stop Z1, just two minutes’ walk from the train station. You can also walk up to the Headrow (10 minutes) and catch the 1, 6, 28, 56 or 97 which will take you to the Parkinson Building steps. Buses take cash or card.
If you are staying in Headingley or west Leeds, buses run regularly along the Otley Road towards the University of Leeds campus (1, 28, 6, 56, 97).
Taxis
There is a taxi area in Princes Street car park at the back of the main train station, and a taxi rank outside the main entrance to the Queen’s Hotel. Taxis/Ubers from here to the University will take about 10-15 minutes depending on traffic. Taxis from Headingley/Hyde Park/Meanwood to the University will take between 5 and 15 minutes depending on traffic.
The Leeds Library Public Reading
Our public reading on 28th February (for which all delegates have already been reserved a ticket, so no need to book!) will be taking place in the magnificent Leeds Library – the oldest surviving subscription library of its type in the UK! Find out more here.
